BIOGRAPHY: How a Hip-Hopper evolved into a Bass Player. . .
Hi, I'm Marco Antonio Berrios, a.k.a. "the wonder Dawg", and I'm on a mission to leave this world a little better than I found it.
My journey as a musician started from the time I was born.
From the time I can remember, I would play records, tapes and 8 tracks of everything in the house.
I got heavy into the Club, Dance and Hip Hop Scenes. Techno was brand new, but already one of my favorites. Then, I experienced my first Live Music Concert .
THAT was that moment that I realized THIS was MY purpose, to create music and touch souls, the way my soul was just touched, forever.
I knew nothing about guitars and started exploring the World of musicians.
First I had to learn that there was a difference between a Jimi Hendrix, 6 string guitar and a Bass Guitar that uses 4, (but now mostly 5).
Then I learned that most of the hip hop I was listening to was made by sampling bass lines written by BASS guitar players.
This is when I discovered amazing bass players like Stanley Clarke, Bootsy Collins and Victor Wooten to name a few.On 5/13/95, knowing that the Bass guitar was the instrument I wanted to play, I put money down on my 1st guitar. Three days later, I paid it off.
I played at least 1 hour a day every single day for the 1st four years. During these 4 years, I played regularly at jams, open mics, parties and anywhere that had musicians, all in search of "the band mates". My "funk masters that loved techno and instruments." were out there.
Instead of wait for a band, I got myself a Tascam 424 and recorded my 1st EP. It was a true musical journey.
On 2/27/99 , a few days before I called my 1st album "complete", I was suddenly Touched By Fire. . . my true mission of resilience and purpose was now literally forged by fire.
In 2013 , I finally started telling that story by self-publishing my memoir, "Touched By Fire".
Around that time, I was performing all over Hollywood, hitting stages like the World Famous Viper Room. I dropped my first album, "Divine Actions With Guidance," on November 11, 2014, and saw my tracks featured on 20 nationally recognized Coast to Coast Mixtapes.
Things took a dark turn in 2018. An evil stalker tried to destroy my life. She committed a multi-platform smear campaign using multiple profiles, and gave my best friend Silby, rat poison. That was the moment the proverbial John Wick was born.
In 2019, I moved to Oregon to start fresh. By the end of the year, I was invited to perform at SXSW 2020. But when the pandemic canceled the convention, it wiped me out financially, leading to my first bout with homelessness.
Through 2021, survival meant van camping and grinding through brutal demolition work, which only aggravated a painful growth on my foot. That led to a 2022 diagnosis of squamous carcinoma and two major cancer surgeries. While recovering, I took a deep dive into my music royalties and uncovered a devastating truth: my distributor, TuneCore, had incorrectly claimed 100% of my publishing rights on several songs, blocking significant income I was rightfully owed.
The physical and financial toll peaked in 2023 with a tendon surgery on my right trigger finger from a freak accident, and three heart attacks—the third of which I directly attribute to the sheer shock and stress of my distributor's malicious practices. It all culminated in quintuple bypass surgery on December 15th.
Even in 2024, while recovering from open-heart surgery, the professional hits kept coming. The release of my song "Feel the Love" was delayed due to interference from TuneCore and its parent company, Believe. Their outdated, incorrect metadata was still actively harming my career, and the resulting stress triggered a fourth heart attack on New Year's Eve.
But I refuse to quit. I rebuilt and reinvented myself. Starting 2025 in a hospital bed and denied disability benefits, I forged a new path forward. I created a FREE Music Business School, a new sovereign ecosystem built so that no other artist will ever have to endure the gauntlet I went through.
Now in 2026, while still healing from multiple health battles, I'm fully focused on reinventing myself for the direct-to-consumer market, connecting directly with you by packaging my music with real, actionable education.
